WATCHMEN Origins

So after watching the Watchmen trailer, I felt as if I owed it to myself to reread the 12 issue comic all over again. My book was torn and bent out of shape, so I went to Borders to buy a new one. After finished reading it for the 50th time, I realized that the Watchmen could go down as a double threat: A LITERARY AND FILM MASTERPIECE

The 1940's was a time full of crime and corruption within the inception of the mafia. New York was now a dangerous place to walk around, and thus The MINUTEMEN were formed. Assembled in 1939, the Minutemen consisted of masked heroes with the only superpowers they possessed were brains and strength.

Members Left To Right:
Silhouette, Silk Spectre I, The Comedian, Hooded Justice, Nite Owl I, Mothman, and Dollarbill.

They went on to fight crime and defend the innocent, but within the moral fiber of the group was anarchy and isolation. In 1940, The Comedian attempted to sexually assault Silk Spectre after a photoshoot. He left the Minutemen shortly after. In 1946, the local newspaper reported that the Silhouette was living with another woman in a lesbian relationship. Six Weeks later, she and her lover were murdered by a former enemy. In 1947, Silk Spectre leaves the group and marries her agent. Minutemen disband in 1949.

1966 spawned a new superhero group by former Minuteman, Captain Metropolis. They wered dubbed as the Crimebusters, who set their goal to solve problems within America while they are at war from another country.

After one meeting, Crimebusters is no more. 1971, President Nixon asks Dr.Manhattan (only hero with superpowers) for assistance with the Vietnam War with fellow hero, the Comedian. August 3rd, 1977 Senator Keene passes a new proposition known as the Keene Act. The Keene act prohibited the activity from all masked vigilantes. The only exception was the Comedian & Dr. Manhattan who now work for the US Government. This leads to many mask heroes to live normal lives and unprecedented deaths.

With the discovery of Dr. Manhattan's powers, U.S. has an upperhand within chaotic showdown..eventually using him for government uses.
